Welcome to XDA-Developers.com
This site is mostly about certain PDA-phones. Many are made by a firm called HTC, but we've recently started discussing some made by other manufacturers. The phones have codenames like 'Wallaby', 'Himalaya', 'Blue Angel', 'Wizard' and 'TyTN', but almost nobody knows them by those names. They are sold through mobile operators that give them their own names. We got our first such phone as 'XDA', hence the name of this site.
Since we developed software for these phones, we needed very specific technical information. When we started xda-developers, neither Microsoft, nor the manufacturers, nor the mobile operators seemed eager or even willing to give it to us. So we 'reverse-engineered' the devices, found a lot of information, and shared it with the world. But as our site grew we realised that lots of ordinary users were also suffering from a lack of support. They started using the xda-developers forum to communicate and before long the forum was as much a user forum as it was a developer forum.
Other years, we've grown. Oh my have we grown. In fact we're still growing like crazy: this is now one of the larger systems of its kind on the internet.
Anyway.... We hope that you will enjoy this site and find it as useful as we do. If you do, we encourage you to donate money, write (more) cool software for mobile devices or simply tell everyone this place is the best.

[Don't steal my phone] Another thief protection app
Popol256 has updated his thief protection application.
I've found many software that supposed to help in case your phone get lost or stolen.
Some were expensive, some were free, but none fitted perfectly to what I was really expecting. So I've made my own.
The closest in terms of functionalities (and price) is Remote Tracker, but it requires .NET 3.5 which is not installed on my WM6.5 phone, and honestly, it's a very fat dependency.
The idea is that you install this software (no CAB, simply copy the 2 files on your phone), and run it once to set up the configuration. Then forget it.
In the case the phone is stolen, the software will send you a SMS with the thief's phone number, it's GPS position, the CellID in case the GPS pos is not available.
You'll then be able to act on your phone remotely by sending it some SMS (described in documentation).
The features that makes this software unique are:
It's possible to destroy all your personal data remotely (call log history, contact, emails, SMS, calendar, owner info, storage card) -> help social engineering to get back your phone.
It's possible to make the phone send you back the call history and the sim contacts.
Slut mode (see the documentation for details).
WOULDYOUSHUTUP mode (where the phone is very very nasty).

[APP]Filter Rules for SMS 4.4 (UPDATED 1-Feb)
Mohitsapru updated his SMSrule cab, it's a very helpful tool that allows you to filter your messages, autodelete messages or hide private messages amongst many other things.

Selyb has provided an update for his application VBScript, VBScript is to process and organize data in RGU/REG files, to remove duplicates, identify faulty entries and move entries to ascending alphabetical order.

[APP] 6.5.X Taskbar Launcher
RAMMANN has made a nice replacement for the 6.5.X notifications.
Instead of getting the notifications when tapping the topbar, a bar will appear in the same style from which you can launch your own apps.

Windows Mobile Threaded SMS Skins by Astronaut
In the never ending quest to modify and personalize your Windows Phone, the question arises, how far do you want to go?
User Astronaut believes it shouldn't stop at the layout and graphics of your threaded SMS screen. So he created two skins, that give the SMS view a true overhaul.

This particular thread by yxyn proved very promising with regard to the old ugly standard Windows Mobile threaded SMS window.
So, I decided to dig a bit deeper and take it to the next level. After my initial proof-of-concept, the many questions received, and the subsequent improvement of the concept, time has come to release my skin to the public.
What does it do?
It modifies certain files with regard to the standard SMS chat window, enhancing its looks.
Why? Is it necessary?
Yeah, duh! See the repulsive centre image above!
What enhancements does it bring?
First of all, and most notably, it adds a top bar with the receiver’s contact picture and his or her name, which remains on top while scrolling through the messages. Secondly, a bunch of images and a different colour scheme give it a new look. Currently, I have two flavours: a Manila / Sense mimicked skin and a Windows 7 inspired one. It works both in landscape and portrait mode.
Any requirements?
Yes sir! Because threading is only supported in WM 6.1 versions and higher, it is only available for 6.1, 6.5 and 6.5.x roms. Use the right version for your device, else it will probably mess up your device.
All resolutions are supported (hopefully) and probably all devices too.

HTC Rome specifications sheet leaked
Just got my hands on the HTC Rome spec sheets as you can see below 
The HTC Rome seems to be featuring a 1Ghz CPU, a 2.8" QVGA touch screen, HSDPA/UMTS and GSM/GPRS/EDGE (quad band) connectivity.
The spec sheets also mention consumer e-mail under applications, we can't spot a hardware keyboard, but the touch screen could easily feature a qwerty keyboard.
The platform seems to be HTC's own.
We're hoping for more news on this device!

- Please be aware that HTC does not resize all images according to the size stated in the xml file. Take for example the HTCFramework package. The htccalendar_bg_green.png is resized in the calendar, but is not resize when you select a day. The background and the buttons (Set and Cancel) are also not resized. So, the only way around this is also to resize (or crop) the images yourself.

Symbian is Officially Open Source
Mr_stickz posted a message yesterday that points to a rather interesting turn of events in the mobile community, Symbian is now an Open Source OS! Will this benefit Windows Mobile and Android users in any way? It just might, if enough development efforts (and interest) are put into this.

[1.10 update][Andynear style]DIY your own SMS chat UI
Yxyn has updated his SMS chat application to version 1.10 contrary to what the screenshots suggest this app is available in English.
The app will change a system file and such a backup before installing is recommended, the app works on devices running WM6.5 and WM6.1 and using a QVGA or WQVGA screen, it will also work on VGA screens but it might look less appealing

I always don't like the default SMS chat mode, but this mode more useful for most of us to chat, and somehow, I just found this way to make my SMS chat mode became more beautiful, just amend the file "iframe_style.css". I thought this is a better way to make the interface of SMS chat mode more popular.
And now here we are, The andynear simple UI for the SMS chat mode.

This is only a proof-of-concept and I won't develop it further because I don't use BG4all myself. But my hope is that the basic concept will be helpful to others, and that it will develop from there.
Traditionally the mod is made by moving the "HomeBackgroud" instance from home.mode9 to manila.mode9. The problem with this is that those are 2 of the most important mode9 files in manila, so they are also needed for a lot of other manila mods.
The result of this is that other mods now have to be made in 2 version: one with bg4all and one without. Also, if a new manila build changes one of the mode9s, the bg4all mod needs to be remade.
A different way of doing it is thought the lua scripts. Specifically only one script needs to be modified to make bg4all: homebackground.luac.
This way no mode9 files are modified so bg4all can be compatible with a lot of other mods. This way mods don't have to be redone to include bg4all.
I've included the lua source of the modified homebackground.luac for manila 2.5 with comments about what’s been changed, but you can also compare it to the original to get a better idea. At the bottom is a ready-made cab with bg4all for manila 2.5. You can read more here

RyanMogul6800 has created a Hybrid version of Arcsoft MMS composer to support MMS as well as pictures and video.

The only bug I couldn't eliminate is if you try and forward a video message sent or received using a NON pics/video version of Arcsoft (MMS) using this version it will say it cannot. But it will save it in your drafts in which you can open it and send it from there.
1: If you are able to uninstall your old version of Arcsoft you should do so before installing this CAB. Otherwise my CAB is set up to delete the registry settings for Arcsoft for you.
2: Install my Security Policy Lifter CAB (you may or may not need this depending on the ROM you use) and reboot your device.
3: Now choose a CAB to install your options are below. Obviously reboot your device after installation.
