Topplez: 3D Block Stacking with a Twist

Topplez: 3D Block Stacking with a Twist

Growing up in suburbia, I often played tabletop games with my family. One game of particular fondness in my household was Jynga. As an adult, I often wonder what it would be like play on a cell phone. Thanks to XDA Member kingofmyworld324 I’ve had that opportunity.

Called Topplez, kingofmyworld324 has taken the original wooden game and made it available with 3D graphics on WP7-based devices. What’s more, he’s taken things up a notch with:

Classic mode has you take blocks from the bottom and place them on top to make the tower as tall as possible in the shortest

Increase Available RAM on the Galaxy Y

One of the worst things on certain budget-friendly smartphones is not having quite enough RAM. This normally isn’t a big deal for many users who use their phone for the practical purposes of calling people, sending texts, and checking email. However for people who do a lot more with their devices such as gaming and heavy app usage, the shortage of RAM may be a bit more limiting. Running out of RAM can cause a lot of problems such as app crashes and large-scale lag.

While you would have a hard time physically soldering on more RAM, users of the . . . READ ON »

Restoring APNs After a Wipe is Now a Problem of the Past

Does having to re-input certain APN settings after a wipe or ROM flash drive you nuts? Thanks to XDA Senior Member CarpeNoctem, this is now a problem of the past. APN Generator allows the user to generate an XML backup containing all APN data. After this, you can easily export your data, as well as import your data after a ROM flash or full wipe.

CarpeNoctem is also compiling a database of all known APN settings. However, the database is not yet complete and probably will always be a work-in-progress. For those interested in helping to compile this list, . . . READ ON »

iBroid Kernel Cleaner Removes Kernel Leftovers on the International Galaxy Note

For many Android fans who have been around the site for awhile, especially for flashaholics, you may have heard of wipe scripts. If you have not, many devices have a script somewhere that, when flashed in a recovery, will wipe your data, cache, dalvik-cache and system partitions for you so you don’t have to traverse the various menus to do it yourself. They are extremely convenient, and many flashers keep one in their flash folder to prepare for the next flash. In the recent past, users have been coming up with more effective and complete ways of removing old ROM . . . READ ON »

Be a Square with Falldown Unlimited

Be a Square with Falldown Unlimited

Sometimes a simple game is all it takes to keep you entertained for hours. XDA Forum Member Angel_666 offers an interesting game with Falldown Unlimited. Using the Unity 3D engine as a base for development and your device’s accelerometer for control, Falldown Unlimited is simple, yet addicting. Tilting your device directs your cube into the hole in the platform, and onto the next platform, repeating the cycle.

The graphics are quite unique, and the 3D-like playing field is nicely laid out. The graphics do no disappoint, thanks to the highly optimized Unity 3D platform, which has given rise to . . . READ ON »

Debian Linux on the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8

Running an OS meant for a traditional computer on an Android phone is always an interesting experience. As such, most devices—even older ones—are given the option to load Linux at some point. This is the case for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8, as it can now run Debian, and quite well, at that.

XDA Senior Member fotak-x posted the guide that not only includes instructions, but also download links for the files required and a Debian package that actually works on the aging X8. The process isn’t overly complicated either. With the simple instructions, users really only need a custom . . . READ ON »

Get Rid of Occasional Game Lag on the HTC One X

One of the most frustrating things when owning a phone as powerful as the HTC One X is playing a game the phone should be able to handle with ease, and ending up with nothing but lag. The experience, while frustrating, is one phone users know all too well, as this can even happen to dual core devices. While mobile phones aren’t bought primarily as gaming consoles, that doesn’t mean people don’t want them to act like one sometimes.

Thankfully, there’s a fix. XDA Recognized Contributor hamdir has written up a tutorial for users to explain why the One X . . . READ ON »
