In 2012, tablets are going to evolve to a great extent thanks to quad-core processors (like with the Tegra 3 found on the Transformer Prime), and now, as we’re learning, with full HD 1080p HD displays. Acer will be among the first to usher in this next wave of tablets with their upcoming Iconia Ice Cream Sandwich tablet. It’ll pack a Tegra 3 CPU clocked at 1.3GHz per core coupled with 1GB of RAM, plus full 1920×1080 resolution on a 10.1″ panel, making for a pixel density of 218ppi, which is very high for a tablet (as a frame of reference, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 with its 1280×800 panel has a pixel density of just 149ppi). No word on pricing or availability.
