Advanced Map Live Wallpaper for Android

screen1

If you’re a fan of Live Wallpaper, here’s a twist on the usual animations.  XDA forum member David Horn has developed Advanced Map Live Wallpaper, which allows you to use your favourite map as a Live Wallpaper showing your current position.

The application is open source and draws on code from Rmaps2 and the AndNav library.  Maps include a choice of Ordnance Survey, Google, Satellite, Bing, OpenStreetMap and USD VFR and IFR charts.

Originally posted by David Horn:

  • Wide selection of maps
  • Battery friendly – it uses network locations and shuts down whenever the homescreen isn’t available
  • Data friendly – aggressive caching means that you should only need to download a map tile once
  • Variable zoom on all maps
  • Accuracy circle (can be switched off)

Currently in beta, the dev has requested that any feedback be posted in the thread, instead of leaving a low rating on the app.

Advanced Map Live Wallpaper is available to download free from the Market.

You can find more information in the application thread.
