Android on Vogue’s Guide to Everything

We have featured the Android port for the HTC Vogue in many occasions. While the Vogue is an old phone, with no wifi capability, and quickly dying and being replaced by newer devices, it is a fantastic device that offers very good performance and specs in a stylish and very portable package. One of the best features currently available for this device is its capability to run quasi-perfect ports of every Android build available, even Froyo.

These devices have every feature functional on most roms, including:

  • Can be flashed to NAND (wiping out WM in the process);
  • Camera;
  • BT;
  • EVDO;
  • Market;
  • GPS;
  • Great battery life;
  • etc.

One of the biggest nuances that plagues the Vogue is its lack of Wifi, which makes it incredibly complex to do basic things such as syncing contacts with your Google account, access the Market, or even access the web altogether. This is particularly true for people on certain carriers (like MetroPCS or Boost Mobile) and for those without data plans on the larger carriers.

There are ways to do everything that was stated above via PC, but the information is scattered around many different sources on the net. Having this in mind, XDA member th3lolz compiled a very comprehensive guide that deals with most common issues for Vogue owners on Android. This information can be used to get the most out of this fantastic OS, while using the Vogue. Be advised that, even though the guide is very thorough and complete, you will still need to have some basic understanding of certain things like adb commands.

Since Android is such a ‘cloud’ oriented OS, it can be quite difficult to make it useful for those without a data plan. This was formerly a non-issue, as Android devices were not available without both a data plan and wifi, but android on the Vogue changes this. There are a select few who will stick to the Vogue for the foreseeable future since it was one of the last decent smartphones to be available without a data plan (at least on Verizon). Some of these tips are pretty self-explanatory (especially the Other Tips section) I just noted them to create a complete resource, since I know the frustration of trying to find all of this information.

You can find more information in the guide thread.
