AppGarden Brings a Slew of Useful Utilities

appgarden

Most of us, at some point, have had to use our phone for a simple yet tedious task such as converting from imperial to metric, looking up the definition of a word, or searching for a postal code. If you find yourself doing these things on a regular basis then you may well have an app (or six) to make the task a bit easier. If that’s the case then we have just the app for you.

AppGarden by XDA Senior Member plbelanger is more than just an app. It’s about 50 apps all rolled into one. And no, that’s not an exaggeration. I was going to compare it to a Swiss army knife, but I’m not sure that comparison does it justice. It’s more like a Swiss army knife that’s been wrapped in bacon and dipped in beer.┬áListing all of it’s features would take all day but here are some of the more notable ones:

  • Abbreviation lookup
  • Audio Recorder
  • Conversions
  • Days Until
  • Example word usage
  • Mortgage/Sales/Tip/Standard Calculator
  • Health related functions (BMI, calorie intake, etc…)
  • Language related functions (dictionary, thesaurus, word etymology)
  • Mapping
  • Music related functions (Artist info/images, album art, discography, gigs via GPS)
  • Phrase lookup
  • Post to Pastebin
  • Post code lookup
  • Pronunciations
  • Random number/password/quote generator
  • Stopwatch
  • System stats
  • Timezone info
  • URL shortener
  • Weather info
  • Whois lookup
  • Wikipedia search
  • And many, many more….

While the basic premise of the app is to act as an interface between yourself and various web based utilities, the amount of functionality that the developer has crammed into is ridiculous. I’d be very surprised if you couldn’t find a use for this application. It requires Android 1.6 or above, and is available from the original release thread.
