Attention Sense Developers! Sense SDK Coming Soon

Attention Sense Developers! Sense SDK Coming Soon

In an incredible turn of events, it looks like the whole openness of platforms is getting… well, more open. Yesterday, HTC launched a new website called htcdev.com, and as you may have guessed from reading the title of this article, HTC will be providing devs with the SDK for their very own UI, HTC Sense. This move by the Taiwanese manufacturer ¬†will likely be widely accepted by developer communities world wide simply because no other company has released SDK’s for their proprietary UIs. Also, you can ask any dev working on ports for Sense based roms and each and everyone of them will tell you that it is not an easy tasks to play with Sense, particularly not after the recent introduction of Sense 3.0, which seems to open a ton of possibilities for much more eye candy and functionality than what we are already used to.

Another perk from HTC in this new site, is that devs will be able to provide feedback and opinions to HTC via an official channel. It looks like after their faux pas with the locked bootloader, they took it at heart that they needed to listen to people a bit more. You can call this move common “Sense” (pun very much intended). Needless to say, this will open a world of opportunities for many people out there and the enrichment of the Sense UI will once again take off, much like when CHT (Cookie’s Home Tab) was released for the Windows Mobile version of Sense.

The site is still under construction and all resources and documentation is currently being put in place by HTC. They say that the site will launch officially in the next few months. So, if you thought that your Sense enabled device couldn’t get any better, just wait until you see what developers with proper tools and documentation can actually get accomplished.
