Backup and Restore EFS, MODEM, and TA Partitions with Just a Root App

New Android devices have some crucial data stored on normally inaccessible partitions. Samsung users certainly know about EFS and its importance, and Sony users value their TA partitions instead. Much important data is stored in these places, and accidentally wiping these partitions can lead to many problems like loss of network connectivity or disable things like Bravia Engine and OTA updates. We previously talked about tools for Sony and Samsung devices that can backup these partitions, but they all require a PC (and Windows) to work.

This is now no longer an issue, thanks to XDA Forum Member pyler, who created a tool to backup those partitions to your SD Card or internal storage really easily. Naturally, this app also gives you the possibility to restore the backed up data when something goes wrong.

The application automatically detects your device and backs up the necessary files. To work correctly, your device must be rooted and be on at least Ice Cream Sandwich. But be warned that messing with your EFS, modem, or TA partition can turn your phone or tablet into plastic brick and void your warranty. The chance of breaking something is low, but it’s better be safe than sorry.

More information regarding supported devices and the application itself can be found in the original thread. Go there to learn more and provide some feedback to the developer.
