Better WiFi On/Off Gives Rule-Based WiFi Control

There are a slew of Android apps available that perform certain actions on your phone based on various conditions or rules. Most of these apps try to accommodate every phone function available in order to provide a wide range of options to the user.

XDA Recognized Developer chamonix has gone against this logic and developed an app targeted at one specific phone function: WiFi. Better WiFi on/off is intended to give you greater control of your phone’s WiFi state so that you can optimize your phone’s battery life without losing out on functionality and user experience.

The app allows you to control your phone’s Wifi based on various rules that you define. Currently in beta, it allows you to control Wifi based on the following:

Wifi on when:
- Screen is turned on / screen is unlocked
- When plugged to A/C

Wifi stays on when:
- A connection could be established withing a given timespan (if not it is turned off again)

Wifi goes off when:
- Screen goes off (with a delay)
- Phone is unplugged from A/C

Further advanced heuristics are in the pipeline, including location- and time-based rules and whitelisting access points to remain connected to at all times. The developer also states that he is open to suggestions for new useful rule sets to be added.

If you think this app sounds useful, or you want to help bug bash the app for the developer, head over to the app thread.
