For those with custom recoveries and unlocked bootloaders, flashing a kernel is as simple as downloading a flashable zip and installing it using the device’s GUI. However on others, it can be a little more tedious than that, such as require fastboot commands. It is not technically difficult to do so, but enter one line wrong and things can go bad quite quickly. For HTC One X users, there is now a tool that makes the process of installing a kernel from your PC easy.
The tool it multi-platform and open source, so pretty much anyone in need can either use it or build it as they see fit. Originally developed by XDA Recognized Developer show-p1984, it’ll flash any kernel zip with a boot.img and optionally contained kernel modules. Some other features include:
Fully automated install
Install of ANY kernel zip as long as there are modules + a boot.img in there
Detecting your phone
Flashing is device specific to the device you have connected. (safer)
No matter where you are (fastboot/recovery/booted) you can just launch this installer and go!
Built using Qt from zero
I made it opensource (GPLv2), so everyone can pull it and make improvements
Multi-platform (If someone has a mac, build it & give me the file so I can add it.)
Autoupdater (from version 0.2 forward, so you can test this new feature with the release of 0.3 )
Automatic cache erase from fastboot
Currently, there’s a Windows and Linux version available. Any one who wants to build it for Mac is more than free to do so. The instructions come in the tool itself, so users can obtain help while using the application. For more info, check out the original thread._________
