While touch screens offer an unparalleled way of navigating through your phone, such tasks as picking an option from a list are tricky to do accurately without hard buttons, especially in such situations as driving or simply when you want things done quickly.
XDA member contactz.my has proposed a solution to this by developing a simple widget for Android, designed to make the option to call your favourite people as accessible as possible. The Contactz widget is a large window which will sit on your home screen, holding potential conversations with four of your contacts at just a tap away.
The widget is designed to be very simple to use. If driving (when used obviously in conjunction with a hands-free set), it almost makes it possible not to have to look at your phone when starting a call.
Key features include the ability to change the widget’s skin and the option to choose whether to call a contact with or without using the loudspeaker, or to send an SMS. Contacts can be identified using either a picture you have set on their information file or though a funny little Android character (with appropriate alterations depending on the gender).
To try Contactz out for yourself, search for it in the Android Market. The developer’s thread is available here for any questions or recommendations._________
