So, you’ve read about the Official Froyo Release dates, but you’re just itching to try out Froyo….
If you really can’t wait, XDA has a lot to offer in terms of Froyo builds. They’re not all unstable either, so for the more adventurous who’d like to learn more about their Android devices, read on.
XDA holds a plethora of guides on rooting and flashing Android ROMS, so don’t be afraid to dive in and find out what goodies lie in the depths of our Android development threads.
First up, the HTC Desire.
By far the device that’s head and shoulders above other Android devices (bar the Nexus One which has already received the Official OTA update) when it comes to available Froyo builds. Ok, so the release date is this weekend for unlocked HTC Desire owners but if your device is operator specific, there is a way to experience the sweet taste of Froyo sooner.
There are multiple stable builds available, more than we can fit into this article, so here are a couple to start you off.
Based off HTC Froyo Sense 2.06 FR91 this one is fast, clean and stable and comes with lots of extra goodies such as the new Superuser permissions app by ChainsDD, custom boot screen, HTC Notes Widget, Desk Clock and Google Car Home. Known issues with this ROM are that there are no HTC Wallpapers. Latest update was 26-JUL-10.
Made purely for the HTC Desire, OpenDesire is compiled from the most recent AOSP source code available – it is not a port of any HTC ROM. Built with stability and reliability in mind, so unlike the ROM above, this one does not contain any additional applications. Latest update was 25-JUL-10.

If you’re not on Sprint and you’re using the EVO, or if you are on Sprint but just can’t wait till Tuesday, you guys also have a limited number of Froyo options. Not as many as the Desire, but still a couple.
Ava-Froyo is a functional Android 2.2 Sense ROM and is very stable. BT and 4G are functioning and 3G tethering and WiFi work fine, as well as recording with the camcorder. Known issues with this ROM are that not all applications show up in the Market, but this will be fixed after Google add the EVO to the database after the official release. Latest update was 30-JUL-10.
Still in beta, this is one to keep your eye on. DamageControl is based on Froyo and is stable enough to release for private testing. Follow the thread to keep updated.

Moving onto the Droid, Motorola Droid and Droid X devices, you’re only going to get 2 out of 3 here…..
Completely stock with Sense based off the upcoming Froyo OTA, it has the additions of su, the Superuser apk and busybox. Camera, camcorder, WiFi, BT, GPS have all been confirmed working although there are some software bugs that have been reported. This ROM does however, contain some extra delights such as 720p recording. Latest update was 29-JUL-10.
A Froyo ROM with Sense and working flash 10.1, SimpleROM gives you extras including Fancy Widget v1.30, the HTC Flip Clock with weather, Superuser app, and wired/wireless tether. There are no known reported issues. Latest update 07-JUL-10.
Sadly, there are no stable Froyo ROMS for the Droid X, but fret not as rumour has it, you guys really don’t have much longer to wait……
Last but not least the Samsung Galaxy S also seems to have hit gold – a test firmware was recently leaked and this has enabled XDA member setenza01 the opportunity to build a Froyo ROM for Galaxy S owners!
ROM FroYo XXJP2 SamSet 2.0 is a themed and fully optimised Froyo ROM that requires the leaked I9000XXJP2 posted by XDA member galaxy_s to have been flashed before applying this update. Latest update was 28-JUL-10.
