Center the Clock on ICS and Jelly Bean Lock Screens

Now that the Jelly Bean releases are in full swing, we’ve been trying to bring you ways to further customize your Jelly Bean experience. While Jelly Bean releases are plentiful, mods to change up the experience are just now beginning to pick up speed. One of the latest tweaks allows users to center their lock screen clock.

The guide to accomplish this comes from XDA Senior Member blindndumb, who’s brought us interesting work in the past. It runs users¬†through basic APK¬†compiling and decompiling with some simple modifications. While modifications like these would optimally be made in source on source-built ROMs, this method allows users to make changes on builds where full source code may not be provided. Furthermore, it guides users through the process of decompiling and compiling apps using APKTool, which may come in handy when modifying leaked OTAs that are not built from source.

The process is actually quite simple. Users decompile the framework-res.apk file. From there, it’s a matter of finding the correct lines of code and altering them to change the position of the clock. There’s only a few lines that deal with clock alignment, and really only one of them needs changed. However, blindndumb has mentioned all of them and what they specifically do in case you’d rather have it aligned somewhere else. At the end, recompile the apk and either ADB push it back where it belongs or use a root explorer application to place it where it needs to be and reboot.
