CES 2013 Unveiled Shows No Android Love

CES 2013 Unveiled Shows No Android Love

International CES begins officially on Tuesday with the main event that everyone talks about, where exhibitors from around the world come to peddle their wares. There are press conferences on Monday, and to top it off, last night they had a pre-press event called CES Unveiled. Its purpose was to give people a preview of the exiting announcements and releases that would be happening over the week. To be honest though, I hope that Unveiled is not indicative of the rest of CES.

There was a disappointing lack of any cred to Android. There were many bobbles and bolt-ons for the iPhone and iPad, from external batteries for quick charges and fancy cases. There were a few Bluetooth speakers and headsets. However, often the press verbiage talks about optimization for the Apple products.

It seems odd to me that with Android market share being very large, manufactures are focusing primarily on the Cupertino Company and forgetting about the little green robot.  Again, I certainly hope that this preview was not indicative of the rest of the show. I hope that manufactures are not blindly focusing on just one device in the huge mobile device ecosystem.

Some stand outs so far have been the 27-inch tablet from LG and the convertible tablet from Toshiba, both of which run Windows 8. Both devices feature x86 processors as well. The overall performance of the two devices was decent upon first look. However, when we port Android x86 to it, it could be even more interesting.

Check back later for more updates, as we bring you some of the most interesting sights at this year’s CES!
