If you are one of the lucky owners of a Samsung Galaxy S 2, you are probably enjoying a blazing fast device at this point in time with tons of tweaks and add-ons available. But what about those of you who just got your hands on this wonderful phone? You probably want to dive head first into rooting, doing custom things on it and more, yet you don’t really feel like spending a whole lot of time reading about how everything works. While we try to promote literacy among people who try this kind of tweaks, we also offer solutions for the ever busy, time-lacking professionals out there. For this reason, XDA moderator Chainfire has released a kernel that will allow you to get your device up and running in this rooted world of ours with a minimum amount of knowledge required. Upon flashing the kernel, you will be given SU, BusyBox, root (duh!), and CWM 3. The kernel will allow you to do all this without actually having to flash any custom rom and this is done in order to preserve the stock rom features and apps, while gaining root access. Again, keep in mind that this is a kernel and not a rom, so please do not ask the dev to add apps, themes, or anything like it.
Please leave some feedback if you would like to express your gratitude or if you are running into any kind of problems. If the latter is the case, logcats are welcome!
This rooted kernel is for the “rooting beginners” and those who want to keep as close to stock as possible. CF-Root takes the kernel from an original Samsung firmware, and just adds root, busybox, and ClockWorkMod (CWM3) recovery.
You can find more information in the kernel thread.
