CM Team Begins Work on Jelly Bean-Based CyanogenMod 10

CM Team Begins Work on Jelly Bean-Based CyanogenMod 10

It hasn’t been long since Google announced Android 4.1 Jelly Bean at Google I/O 2012, and the CyanogenMod team has already announced commencing work on Jelly Bean based CyanogenMod 10 on their official Google+ page.

According to the announcement, the team does not have early access on the Jelly Bean source code, and are waiting for its release on the AOSP. However, they are preparing to start work by considering the changes apparent in the latest version.

Apart from confirming that the Jelly Bean release will be CyanogenMod 10 rather than 9.x, the announcement clarifies the future of different CM9 versions. Since the jump from CM9 to CM10 wouldn’t be as huge as that from CM7 to CM9 and since almost all devices compatible with ICS will run Jelly Bean just fine, the team is likely to eventually stop maintaining CM9 (after a stable release) in favor of CM10. On the other hand, the Gingerbread-based CM7 will continue to be maintained for older devices.

Thanks XDA Senior Member eggydrums for bringing it to our attention in this thread.
