The Thunderbolt is one of HTC’s latest and greatest devices, and the first one to sport 4G LTE (Evo’s WiMax counterpart if you are keeping tabs). Many people were puzzled and disappointed at the fact that the device came with Froyo as a stock, considering that it is so late in the Froyo game and that there are other manufacturers already releasing devices preloaded with Gingerbread as the OS. As most of our community simply denies to be satisfied with whatever the carrier or the manufacturer puts out, it was decided that the Thunderbolt needed more Gingerbread in its 4.3 inch 4G LTE capable glory. XDA member slayher along with other devs are going hard at porting the infamous CM7, which is a 2.3.3 release of this OS but in AOSP form, basically the purest form of Android. Those of you Sense fanatics will want to stay away from this one, unless you feel like installing a ton of UI enhancements and widgets to make it look like Sense. But if your cravings for 2.3.3 are strong enough, then you should definitely take this for a test drive. Keep in mind that the project has just been started and thus, it is in pre-alpha state, according to the dev.
So, if you want to get it to see how CM7 feels on your Thunderbolt or if you feel that you can help with its development, please post some feedback as to what bugs you run into.
So after many hours by myself and toastcfh, here is a pre-release pre-alpha build of CyanogenMod 7.0 for the Thunderbolt (Mecha).
CyanogenMod is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
