Code Discovered in Latest Google Play Store Update for Wishlists and Gift Cards

Not long ago, we brought you news that Google had put code into Jelly Bean for switching users. While not an official feature of Jelly Bean, the code hidden inside gives a clue as to what Google has planned for the future. Google has done so once again with the latest Play Store update. The update—to 3.8.15 and 3.8.16—has bits and pieces of code to suggest that Google will soon be adding support for wishlists and gift cards.

Currently, there’s no way to use the features, but screenshots have been posted online of things that give credence to the findings. Things such as gift card redemption screens and wishlist screens. These features are currently unavailable to the public, but those who have checked out the code have come to the conclusion that it is happening and the question is merely when. These changes surfaced in the 3.8.15 update. The 3.8.16 update didn’t enable them, but it did fix some bugs. To give further evidence that the features will be turned on soon, shots have appeared online of physical Google Play gift cards—as in ones you buy in a store—that are set to land sometime in late August. There is also some speculation that there will be a cart feature added due to the upcoming wishlist feature. However, those are just rumors.

If you’d like to download the latest update, head over to this thread where you can also find out more about the update.
