Control Your Appliances with Your Android Device

Long have I dreamed about laying in bed and checking the status of my washing machine to make sure my socks are washed, make sure my fridge isn’t still open from when my 4 year old decided to get some juice, or track the scale’s measurements from 90 days ago. OK, maybe I haven’t. Panasonic on the other hand thinks these things would be a great idea, and is preparing to give you a line of appliances that can be controlled via your Android device.
Now, mind you, the process only works if you have an NFC-enabled smartphone, as you need to touch the phone to the appliance in order to transfer a recipe or schedule, get relevant operating and support information, or otherwise interact with it through a variety of appliance-specific processes. While this is only initially rolling out to customers in Japan late in September and early October, expect to see these appliances migrate to other countries within the next year. The Android application will be available via Panasonic’s website for free.
I imagine I am not the only one envisioning a custom application being created to make use of the Panasonic interface to these appliances, and who knows, maybe I will be able to lay in bed and control my entire house soon.
