CyanogenMod7 Alpha 1 Released for the Samsung Epic 4G

This may seem a little late considering many devices are already rocking CyanogenMod 7 RC2, but for owners of the Sprint’s keyboard-laden superphone, it’s likely a breath of fresh air. Alpha 1 has just been released thanks to the efforts of XDA developers Dameon87, nullghost, and DevinXtreme, who ported the widely acclaimed ROM to the SPH-D700.

Before you go about flashing, be warned that it is still in the Alpha stage, so not everything can be expected to work. Here’s more from Dameon87:

First the disclaimer.
This software is considered ALPHA state. Some things will work, some will not. You will likely encounter bugs. Do NOT flash this if you expect the software to be fully functional.

With that said, a short list of things that DO work.

  • Radio works fully – Calling, SMS, Data
  • Bluetooth works for music only.
  • Wifi works fully.
  • Sensors work, but may be slow. Run /system/bin/sensorcalibutil_yamaha in terminal or via adb, place the phone on a flat surface, and hit Enter. Reboot the phone and sensors will function at normal speed.

What does NOT work ::

  • GPS
  • Camera
  • HW Acceleration in UI and in video, etc.

Thread under construction.

But the wait is over

If you’ve been waiting to get some CyanogenMod-flavored Gingerbread cookies for your Epic 4G, feel free to continue on to theĀ original thread!
