Debian Linux on the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8

Debian

Running an OS meant for a traditional computer on an Android phone is always an interesting experience. As such, most devices—even older ones—are given the option to load Linux at some point. This is the case for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8, as it can now run Debian, and quite well, at that.

XDA Senior Member fotak-x posted the guide that not only includes instructions, but also download links for the files required and a Debian package that actually works on the aging X8. The process isn’t overly complicated either. With the simple instructions, users really only need a custom kernel and 4GB or larger SD Card. From there, users download the proper files and install VNC Viewer for Android, and then type a few simple commands. What is perhaps even more impressive than successfully running a full Linux distro is that users are reporting no lag when using it, which is impressive considering the X8 runs on a 600MHz processor.

Xperia X8 owners looking for something fresh should continue on to the original thread to get started.
