As you are probably aware, the whole new Desire family was successfully perma-rooted thanks to the collaboration efforts of many devs in and out of XDA. A few days have passed already, and we can see that all the hard work from the devs is paying off with people reportedly able to fully root the devices with very few cases (if any) of people bricking their devices. In order to avoid this, the rooting process has been simplified a lot, and XDA member gtrab has posted a very complete guide on how to permanently root your Desire Z without any problems.
The step by step tutorial will show you and provide you with everything you need to free your device from its chains and allow you to flash custom roms, themes, and run apps that you normally wouldn’t be able to use. The guide will also show you how to flash stuff into your device. So, if you haven’t done this yet, get rooted and truly start playing with this wonderful piece of hardware. Remember that some level of knowledge is required, so read everything twice if you are not certain of what you are doing.
1.- I can confirm I made this process myself TWICE and everything is working OK:
I got PERMANENT ROOT on my American (NAM-Bell) hardware Desire Z
2.- I can also confirm that after permanent rooting, then I used a simple stock HTC RUU app to flash a Generic (Euro) software (aka “cross-flashing” or “debranding”)
What is “RUU” ?? –> scroll down to post 3 to learn a bit more about “flashing” (soon…)
3.- After efectively and easily cross-flashing (“debranding”) my American Desire Z with a stock RUU, I have tested my phone and I can confirm everything is working OK with the stock HTC Sense software on my American NAM-Bell Desire Z: my 3G internet is runing well, market is working a treat, all the original HTC Sense apps are there… EVERYTHING seems OK
4.- This also confirms that American and Euro/Asian firmwares (ROMs) are INTERCHANGEABLE
5.- On a sidenote, this also confirms that Euro and NAM radios are interchangeable !! (but that will be another thread and I am currently using the 1900MHz band only) You can find some neat basic info about radios on post 15 by user Lennyuk
You can find more information in the guide thread.
