Live wallpapers are hardly the most cutting edge feature of the Android OS. They’ve been around since version 2.1, which is little more than a distant memory for most of us. If you’re still rocking Eclair on your G1, then more power to you. The difference between the live wallpapers of old and their modern contemporaries, though, is staggering. While we once giggled like giddy schoolgirls at the simplicity of a few gently swaying blades of grass, we now give no more than a second thought to the complex shapes and animations that can be placed on our home screens. Some of these more recent LWP’s even react to our interactions.
Ditalix from XDA Recognised Developer ftgg99 is the latest of these interactive live wallpapers that brings a whole new level of customization to the category. To sum it up as simply as possible, after selecting a background image and shape type you will find your chosen wallpaper obscured by your chosen shape. These shapes can then be tapped and swiped, which will trigger an animation of your choosing and split the shape into four. As you continue to tap and swipe away the background image will begin to reveal itself and eventually reset once the majority of shapes have been reduced down to their lowest level. There are numerous other settings to make tweak including random animations and complete themes.
While themes from the team behind Ditalix will come at a price, designers can contact the developer and request a version of the app which will allow you to share your themes, and they will then be made available to users for free. If the community were to get behind this, the possibilities for this app are endless. Rumor has it there may even be an exclusive XDA theme on the way.
