It’s never safe to do anything while driving. You may have heard this same advice numerous times from your driving instructor, parents, and your brain; but is a quick phone call or a change of song really that dangerous? It may well be, especially with all the swiping and tapping you have to do to do so. Well, Sony’s realized this and introduced an app on the Xperia Z called Sony Car, a launcher designed specifically for driving.
Made to work for all devices by XDA Recognized Themer ThilinaC, Sony Car is in essence a launcher with big icons for essential shortcuts and apps. With two horizontally swipeable pages consisting of six icons on each page, the launcher has four main, default shortcuts: Location, Media, Phone, and Settings. Location and Media are basically categories for apps the driver wants access to while driving such as the music player or the GPS app, while Settings provide shortcuts to Bluetooth and NFC configurations. The Phone shortcut shows the driver the recent inbound and outbound calls, favorite contacts, contacts list, and dialer, all of which when accessed, have every aesthetic element enlarged for easy viewing. Thilinac does acknowledge that the phone dialer will force close on non-Xperia devices. The phone screen will also stay on for the duration the launcher is open.
Sony has created and introduced a simple and practical launcher, based on a simple and practical concept that our phones are overly complicated for driving. Working on any Android device running Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean, the launcher can be downloaded from the original thread._________
