Early ICS Port Arrives For the Original Transformer

The Transformer Prime has been getting lots of attention lately. With an ICS OTA update and several fresh mods, Prime owners have more than enough to tinker with.

What about the Prime’s older brother?

The original Eee Pad Transformer TF101 is finally getting some love in the form of an (admittedly) early Ice Cream Sandwich build. XDA member paulburton has released a working version and the respective source code.

From the original thread:

I thought some of you might be interested in what I’ve been hacking on for the past couple of days, ICS running on the transformer. It’s very early days but the touchscreen, keyboard & wifi are working. It feels quite smooth swooshing between homescreens, but that’s about all it’s useful for at the moment – don’t use this for anything beyond playing, and only do so if you know how to flash back to honeycomb.

From paulburtons homepage:

Known issues:

  • Sometimes wakes from suspend by itself (usually when suspending via the screen timeout)
  • WiFi breaks after suspend, and causes slowdown as the kernel goes crazy
  • No sensors (accelerometer, compass etc)
  • No GPS
  • No mass storage
  • No backlight control
  • No camera
  • No audio input

Definitely a step in the right direction! Experienced Transformer users who want to give 4.0.3 a try can check out the original thread here. As stated previously, only attempt to flash this if you can return to Honeycomb since the build isn’t fully functional.
