Easily Backup Contacts with Easy Contact Sync

A few days ago, we spoke about an app for managing apps and backing them up without the need for root. This is a great tool, however there are more things that are of importance other than apps, for instance, your contacts. I know what you are thinking “but my Google account hold all my contacts, why would I need an app to handle them?” The reason is as simple as being in an area where you have no data (either via carrier or WiFi) and you need to perform either a hard reset or you simply are craving a brand new ROM that you have on your SD card, waiting to get flashed.  In the spirit of trying to get a full suite of apps together, XDA Forum Member Goddchen decided to throw this one together based on the same code he used for his previous creation.

Easy Contact Sync, much like its name suggests, is an app that will allow you to back up all your contacts without the need to sync to your Google account. The app essentially creates .vcf files, which are normally known as vCards. This format has been the preferred method for backing up contacts off line in Outlook, Android, and many others for a very long time. These vcards are then stored either in your preferred cloud services or locally on your SD card or even PC. Some automated functions also give it a nice oomph and a certain boost in functionality such as the ability to share either individual or multiple contacts at a time with other devices.

The app is in a stable beta version and the dev offers a free (but limited) version of the app. The biggest limitation is essentially that you can back up up to 3 contacts at a time and that auto-sync is disabled. The dev is mainly looking for feedback and ideas to improve the app. So, if you happen to try it, please leave your comments and suggestions in the thread.

Based on my last app “Easy App Toolbox”, I created this new app for handling your contacts.

Contacts are saved as VCARDs (*.vcf files). This way they can easily be used in any other application that can handle VCARDs.
