The Internet loves GIFs. Whether you pronounce it with a hard or a soft G doesn’t matter, the humble GIF is the obvious vessel of choice for short clips of comical accidents and cats eating lollipops. I challenge anyone to tell me with a straight face that they’ve never encountered at least one animated GIF that made them laugh or just say “Aww.”
GIFs are also frequently used as image-based responses in forums, with XDA being no exception. While it’s pretty easy to find an animation for nearly any response you could ever want to make, what about if you wanted to perhaps make your animated offering a little more personal?
XDA Senior Member icechen1 created an application that allows you do just that. It’s called Face2GIF. And although you can probably guess exactly what it does, I’ll explain it anyway. The app uses your device’s front facing camera to record your face and then allows you to turn the recording into a small animated GIF. This is perfect for capturing and sharing a reaction to something when a simple emoticon just doesn’t cut it.
The recorded images can be shared to other apps directly from Face2GIF and are also archived in the application’s built in gallery. Image quality, looping, and frames per second are adjustable as well, as the ability to add captions or vignettes to the image.
Check out the application thread and never have to take another boring static self-facing photo ever again._________
