While the words didn’t expressly pass through the website or anyone affiliated with it, one can only assume that Facebook was in an apologetic mood a few days ago with the official app’s most recent update. For those who don’t know, Facebook had taken some Google+ style tactics and added a few apps along with the main one. Users who downloaded or updated the app were treated with Facebook Camera and Messenger apps. To put it bluntly, people didn’t like it.
Thus was born the Facebook Icon Remover app, which in just a couple of short weeks racked up well over 1000 downloads. The point of the app? To remove the Facebook Camera and Messenger Icons from the app drawer so people at least had the ability to not look at them anymore. There was really no point for Facebook to include them as the Messenger app was (and still is) available as a separate app on the Google Play Market, and since every single stock camera app on every Android device has a “share with Facebook” feature, the camera wasn’t exactly useful either.
Well, friends, Facebook has been paying attention, which is more than can be said for other companies. Their latest update fixes a few bugs and removes the Camera and Messenger apps from the official app. While this spells the end for the Facebook Icon Remover, the app served its purpose to a whole bunch of users, and it couldn’t have come to a happier ending.
It’s only too bad they don’t listen more often as their users continue to clamor for a faster application with more options and themes. However, to steal a quip from Android’s arch nemesis, there’s an app for that._________
