Firefox For Android Now Optimized For Tablets

Firefox For Android Now Optimized For Tablets

Just shortly after the desktop version, Mozilla has also bumped the Android version of its popular open source browser Firefox to 9.0, bringing an all-new user interface to tablet users.

In landscape mode, tabs are now shown on the left side as thumbnails, with a swipe to the left hiding the tab bar for more screen estate, while in portrait, tabs are listed in a menu. You can also access all your browsing history, open tabs, bookmars and saved passwords from other Firefox installations on both desktop and mobile through Firefox Sync, all presented nicely on the “Awesome Screen” (probably referring to the Awesome Bar, which is how Mozilla likes to call the address bar in desktop Firefox).

For developers, many new HTML5 features have been added, including the ability to access the built-in camera, for example to scan bar codes.

If you’re tired of Android’s stock browser, especially if you’re using a tablet, head over to the Android Market to give Firefox a spin, or watch this video to get a better idea of it.
