One week ago, XDA Senior Recognized Developer jcase and Recognized Developer beaups managed to root the HTC One (M8) with their WeakSauce multi-device root method. Five days later, the Firewater dev team (XDA Recognized Developers beaups and Fuses) announced that they had achieved S-Off on the HTC One (M8) via Twitter.
The Firewater team’s Twitter announcement understandably left many wondering when the team would package and release this method for mass consumption. Well folks, the time is here, as Firewater S-Off is officially available for the M8.
Achieving S-Off with Firewater is relatively straight forward. First you must disable your lock screen security and download the Firewater exploit. Once that’s done, you execute a series of commands to reboot, push Firewater to the device, give it the appropriate permissions, and execute it. On some devices, such as the Verizon M8, you must first root using the previously covered WeakSauce method before achieving S-Off. And once all is said and done, you’ll end up with a truly free device, all courtesy of your loving Firewater devs.
To get started, simply head over to the Firewater S-Off instructions page. You can share your experiences with Firewater in the comments below, as well as the official HTC One (M8) Firewater S-Off release thread. And if it worked for you, don’t forget to click thanks in the announcement thread and throw your valued developers a few bones.
