First Hybrid Rom For The HTC Desire Z / G2

Despite being an older device, the HTC Desire Z/G2 still has a good amount of developer support behind it. The device also has a loyal fanbase of people who are very fond of its hardware keyboard. ICS and Jelly Bean builds are available for the device, which is more than can be said for some newer devices. What it did not have, up until a few days ago that is, was a ROM capable of running in hybrid mode.

For those unfamiliar, Paranoid Android is a true hybrid ROM, which allows users to choose layout and density on a per-app basis. This means that you can find a happy medium between the different UIs. For example, you can retain the traditional settings menu while running the tablet version of apps like YouTube.

XDA Senior member NeverGone\RU decided that it was time to bring this to the Desire Z, and has ported Paranoid Android to the device. The ROM is still in an alpha stage and has a few bugs as you might expect. However, it is usable and provides a great starting point for others to step up and help the project along.

If you’d like to try this for yourself, head over to the original thread and see what all the fuss is about.
