Float any Widget Above an Application with Overlays

Floating apps are by no means new, and we’ve previously posted articles about suites of floating apps, music controls and note/drawing apps. So what’s left? What else could you possibly want to float? Well one thing we were still missing was the ability to take any existing widget and effectively pin it on top of any currently running application. Until now, that is.
Overlays, by XDA Senior Member liorry allows you to do just that by letting you place any widget already installed on your device above an already running application. The possible uses for this are limited only by the widgets at your disposal and by your imagination. Whether it’s placing music controls on top of your favorite navigation app, keeping a calculator hovering over a spreadsheet or keeping one eye on your Twitter feed while watching YouTube, I’m pretty sure we could all find at least one use for an application such as this.
Overlays allows you to set up profiles that will automatically float your chosen widget whenever a certain application is opened and then remove it when closed. There are also some built-in overlays for some of the more commonly sought information such as battery level, SMS/missed call counts, weather, and time. Compatible with Android 4.0 and greater, Overlays can be found in the application thread.
