Free Your Bionic From The HDMI Dock

So, as you are probably aware, the Droid Bionic is rather locked down all the way to the things that we can or cannot do without certain accessories. In case you are wondering, it seems that without a little “official” HDMI dock for the phone, the webtop application cannot be used, not even if you attach a HDMI cable to the device. This is now a thing of the past thanks to XDA Recognized Developer Fenny who just put a very nice and simple tutorial on how to get rid of the hardware verification done by the device. In essence, you have two ways of applying this: via ADB for those who like to do things the old fashioned way, and by flashing a zip file on your device. The end result is your newly acquired ability to use the webtop interface without the need to spend a single dime on an overpriced dock.
If this sounds like something you were waiting for, please give it a shot and post your feedback.
It removes the device ID string check from PortalApp, and enables the webtop option in DockService. Replacing these two apk files effectively allows the webtop to launch without proprietary hardware.
