Galaxy Nexus GPS Issues Over the Weekend?

Galaxy Nexus GPS Issues Over the Weekend?

If you own a Samsung Galaxy Nexus and have attempted to use your GPS in the last few days, you more than likely noticed one thing: It simply could not obtain a GPS fix. Unlike previous GPS issues tied to Samsung devices, however, this is not due to any fault in the hardware.

Prior to Friday, GPS generally worked perfectly for most users, obtaining a full GPS fix in as brief of a time as expected on any modern phone. However, as of three days ago, this became an impossibility for most Galaxy Nexus owners. Luckily, the issue appears to be resolved now. But what caused this in the first place?

The GPS issues seemingly had no correlation with the firmware running on users’ phones. It indiscriminately affected users on both Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean—running stock or custom ROMs. Rather than assuming that everyone’s GPS hardware decided to go awry at the exact same time, users quickly realized that disabling location services seemed to ease the issue.

As stated before, though, GPS functionality is now restored, and users do not have to disable location services in order to obtain a fix. Regardless of the current state of functionality, it would still be nice to hear from the mothership as to what exactly happened.
