Galaxy Player 5.0 Gets Pre-Alpha Jelly Bean and 3.0 Kernel

The joy of porting Android versions across devices does not necessarily stop with phones. In fact, many people have devices not meant to be dependable means of communication with the outside world. Devices like these are in fact useful when you want to mess around with newer OS versions such as the smooth, butter-loaded Jelly Bean. Essentially, you have fewer critical components to worry about (read: no CDMA/GSM radio), and because of this you are able to “test with more confidence.” One such device is the Samsung Galaxy Player 5.
XDA Forum Member JackpotClavin had been messing around with the latest 3.0 Linux kernel, which has a lot of kernel devs busy these days. Once this was successfully ported over to the SGP5, the time to mess around with new Android builds came. As such, the JB port for this device came to be. After a lot of trying and back and forth bug fixes, Forum Member Mevordel decided that the build was stable enough to be considered a pre-alpha, and decided to release it for mass consumption. As its title already suggests, the unofficial CM10 port for the device is far from being a complete build. But even at this state, you can still find several working features such as WiFi, sound, touchscreen, battery, hardware acceleration, and of course… root!
Needless to say, that if you want to have a stable, reliable player to mess with, this is likely not a good choice of ROM yet. Having said that, if you would like to take it for a spin and help the dev iron out some extra bugs, it would definitely help in getting this ROM to a more usable state. Please leave your feedback.
Stuff still broken:
- Rotation (works, but offset 90 degrees)
- External SD (at all)
- Internal Storage (see workaround in second post)
