All Android users who use the Gmail app have something in common, we all have to let Google know that it is ok to download the images in the e-mails. As annoying as this may seem, this feature is useful for people roaming or with low data quotas. However, for those under unlimited data plans, it is a bit annoying to having to accept the images downloads on every e-mail. XDA member Anderdroid created a modded version of the Gmail.apk and removed the limitation present in the original one, which forces the user to accept the images before even attempting to download them.
Use this with care, particularly if you are roaming, as data charges can add really quick. The devices don’t need to be rooted to use this patch.
I noticed one annoying thing about Gmail for me. I always had to hit the big “Display Images” button to view emails properly.
So I decompiled it, did some editing, and got it to always display images period. Doesn’t ever show that big ugly button either. All emails load images, it’s great.
This is based on the latest FROYO Gmail. I may make a version for Eclair if there’s enough people interested.
