Get Higher Resolution On Your Captivate

If you’d like to make full use of the screen resolution on your Samsung Captivate, you might want to try out a tweak posted by XDA forum member jdsmler.
The XDA member reduced the LCD density setting in the /system/build.prop file from 240 to 160.
Apparently this is the setting that Google normally recommends if you have a larger screen. The menus end up with smaller text with more options fitting into the screen – the same feeling of being on a PC and moving from a low resolution LCD monitor to a high resolution LCD monitor.
Reports so far show that the tweak works in most cases, but there are a couple of glitches where some apps want to render in the previous resolution. For example Android Market renders full screen but the search is in the old resolution. It appears the setting that controls these issues is found in the /system.prop file where the LCD density setting is also at 240. Changing the setting to 160 works although after reboot, it resets back to 240.
For full instructions on how to try out the tweak, or if you have any idea how to make the /system.prop file tweak stick on reboot, head on over to the modification thread.
