Google Glass, which recently received its official update to KitKat (as well as a maintenance update to XE16.11), is the company’s first attempt at wearable computing. Although it has been available to developers and early adopters for a little over a year now, many would-be purchasers have been unable to get their hands on Glass. This changes today, however, as Google has opened up Google Glass Explorer Edition to everyone… well everyone with a spare $1500 USD to spend, that is.
You may recall that a few weeks ago, Google made Glass purchases open to everyone for a single day. Now looking back, this move can be viewed as Google testing the waters of consumer adoption. But they were either not overwhelmed with demand or they simply wish to bring Glass to the greater population, as now Glass can be purchased by anyone. Unfortunately though, the price remains at the Explorer Edition $1500, and purchasing is US only.
If you’re ready to plunk down $1500 to get some Glass action, head over to the ordering page, select your color and style, and try your hardest to not be a Glasshole. Once you’ve gotten your own pair, make sure to head over to our Google Glass forums to get in on the discussion.
Update: Well, that didn’t last long. It seems as if the order page was never meant to go public. And as such, it has now been closed. Sorry, wannabe Glass users.
