Google To Release Nexus Tablet Within Six Months?

Google To Release Nexus Tablet Within Six Months?

Speaking with Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera (via), Google chairman Eric Schmidt revealed that the company is looking to release a tablet “of the highest quality” within the next six months.

It’s not clear yet whether Google is actually going to manufacture and sell the tablet on its own, possibly leveraging the¬†recently-purchased Motorola, or pick an OEM like HTC or Samsung to create a “pure” Google tablet under the Nexus brand. Considering history, the latter seems more likely, as that’s what Google has been doing with the Nexus One, Nexus S, and Galaxy Nexus smartphones; however, the first Honeycomb tablet, the Motorola Xoom, also shipped with a “pure”, unmodified Android version and was heavily promoted by Google, without being applied the Nexus moniker. Now that Motorola belongs to Google, the first option doesn’t seem too unlikely.

Schmidt also said that Google is working on improving its voice recognition technology “to do things similar to Siri”, Apple’s voice assistant available on the iPhone 4S which recognizes and responds with natural language, as opposed to other technologies that depend on pre-defined commands.
