Shortcuts in our homescreen are a wonderful thing. They allow us, with incredible ease, to launch any and all applications that we may want to use. However, filling up our homescreen with every single icon defeats the purpose of having a start menu. Moreover, we don’t always use the same apps all the time and changing said shortcuts every time for our most commonly used apps can be cumbersome, at best. With this in mind, XDA member rm9 has created SmartWidget. Now, to many of you this will look familiar as holding the home button on most Android devices will bring up your most recent apps used. This little widget takes this a step further and allows you to have this functionality without even using the “home” button. This is quite possibly the best way to keep all your favorite apps handy while keeping your homescreen intact and fresh at the same time.
The dev is looking for some feedback as it is crucial for the continued development of the app. Please leave some behind if you decide to take this app for a spin.
After you add the widget to your home screen, it will start monitoring the applications use. The most frequent ones will appear on the widget.
You can find more information in the application thread.
