Help the Less Tech Savvy Use their Android Devices with Necta Launcher

The world of launchers in Android is nearly as vast as theming itself. There is something for each and every person out there–starting with the basic Google Experience Launcher, and moving to more complex offerings like Sense, TouchWiz, and various aftermarket solutions. These are great for the tech savvy and those who deal with Android devices frequently, but there are lots of people out there who have been caught off guard by the tidal waves of time and technology. The older tech and older UIs are no longer available, and some of the aforementioned UIs can be somewhat intimidating for people who might not be as familiar with the flexibility that Android launchers offer.

You may recall XDA Senior Member Williams.Joe from other projects featured here in the Portal such as WiFi Mouse and Air Call Accept. After a lot of testing, he is back with a brand new project aimed at helping those with a limited understanding of Android but still need to use an Android device. Necta launcher features easy to access options on the screen that are aimed at providing core functionality for people who are either tech impaired or short sighted. However, large icons and text aren’t the only things that set this launcher apart. This launcher also includes a tracking feature that allows the user to know where he/she is (useful for children’s devices as well as elderly with problems such as Alzheimer’s disease). Last but not least, the app is also able to send request(s) for help without requiring the end user to do anything other than waving his/her hand over the device 3 times. Once the device registers the gesture, it will automatically send a SMS to any contact selected as a “hot contact.”

The launcher is still in development, so please leave your feedback and/or suggestions for the dev to work on. As always, if you come across any bug, logcats are more useful than complains. Now, go ahead and make Grandpa and Jr. happy about owning an Android device. You can find more information in the original thread.
