By now, you have all seen mods by some of our greatest devs that allow you to dim the brightness of the devices. Plugins like CF3D or the rendering engine on CM roms can make your devices go into very low brightness modes. This is helpful for ocassions where you don’t want to wake other people up or you are simply trying to save battery. However, the settings on Android will only let your device display at a certain minimum brightness, a value that seems kind of arbitrary. Well, if you need to use your device in situations where the brightness really has to be lower than what is allowed by Android, then you should check out the app made by XDA member arpruss. This mod requires root access, but it will allow you to go much lower than any of the currently available dimmer apps out there. According to the dev, this is a rather useful feature for when you are out in the open field doing stargazing as well as other activities that require almost zero surrounding lights. The dev also mentioned that it was primarily created for LCD devices, which means that OLED devices may not be able to use this app at all.
Right now, the app is in development stages but it is quite stable and the dev is currently working on adding a few more screen types. Please leave your feedback if you like this app.
SuperDim lets you dim LCD screens (not OLED) to very low levels–lower than the OS normally allows
