Not too long ago, we brought you coverage of the HTC EVO 3D HBoot downgrade, which allowed users to finally rid themselves of HBoot 1.5 and achieve true s-off status. And as expected, it’s taken off like wildfire. Since then, users and developers alike have breathed new life into the HTC EVO 3D forums, as now users can do whatever they want to their phones.
However, there are still some out there who just aren’t as comfortable as they’d like, and haven’t gone through with the somewhat difficult procedure. While the concept of overly simplified tools is a hot topic here, there are some who believe that simplified tools are useful and even preferred over longer, potentially riskier solutions. To that end, XDA Forum Member closeone has created a tool that will the less facile go trough the process with minimal difficulty. It’s a bootable live CD that automates as much of the process as possible, leaving only the need for just a few simple terminal commands.
The Live CD, which has been updated several times and is has both a stable release and an experimental release, comes with very easy to follow instructions and a full FAQ from closeone on how to use it and exactly what work is involved on the side of the user. Users have reported that the Live CD works well and is significantly easier than the manual process.
According to XDA Member Advocate Admin and News Guru egzthunder1, it should be noted that there are some dangers associated with the Live CD.
The method will completely brick the 3D if you try to brick it while it is S-OFF. Apparently, emmc mode does not activate if you are S-OFF already, so corrupting the bootloader will only result in a permanent brick. Unknownforce added this to the OP on his guide.
So if you’re S-OFF do not, under any circumstances, attempt to use this method as it will cause you many irreversible problems.
For more information, download links, FAQ, discussion and more, check out the Live CD thread. Remember to be careful, as even simplified rooting methods carry an inherent risk._________
