Icon Sets Made Easy with Icon Set-Builder

Here at XDA, our main focus is of course development, but we do also encourage and promote theming. We’ve seen some amazing graphical work produced by XDA members over the years, and this is why we have the Recognized Themer program.
A large part of the theming scene is creating custom graphics such as icons. A new set of icons can completely change the look of a device. The one problem for themers who work on new icon sets is consistency. Unless you own a graphics editor that supports scripting, ensuring all your icons have exactly the same properties can be difficult, tedious and time consuming.
XDA Senior Member vrooden has come to the rescue with Icon Set-Builder, a Windows-based application dedicated to creating or modifying icon sets. The application will ensure every one of your icons is themed with exactly the same properties.
Icon Set-Builder lets you take existing icon sets and modify them to your liking, or as the developer encourages you to do, you can unleash your creative side and come up with your own original and unique designs. A number of templates are included in the application as a starting point, including ICS, Metro, PixelPerfect, and iOS-like icons.
The application works by utilising a number of layers for templates, icons, masks and overlays, as well as allowing a large variety of adjustments to be made on each layer. In simple terms, as the developer describes:
- Choose a template and, if supported, a template style (i.e. several colors)
- Choose your favorite icon set
- Optionally, choose an alpha mask to be applied for each icon
- Optionally, choose a matching overlay
- Play around with the settings
- Let the tool generate your icon set
