IFA 2014: Sony, Samsung, and ASUS Unveil Exciting New Devices!

IFA-2014-Miss-Mobile

IFA-2014-Miss-MobileToday we can finally put an end to the waiting and pointless speculation. IFA, which is taking place in the German capital city of Berlin, gave us the long awaited answers about our upcoming new favorite toys.

Sony released three new devices: the flagship Xperia Z3 phone, the powerful Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, and a brand new Android Wear smartwatch, the Smartwatch 3. As promised earlier this year, Sony decided to release flagships device every six months.

09_Xperia_Z3_FamilyThe new Xperia Z3 has a 5.2” (or 4.6″ in Xperia Z3 Compact form) Full HD touchscreen (same as in the Xperia Z2). The device is waterproof and dustproof, with IP 65/68 certification. Just like its predecessor, it has a powerful 20.7 MP camera with ISO 12800. Sony claims that photos taken in a bad light will still remain intact. As expected, the Z3 is not a 64-bit device and has a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 CPU, 3 GB of RAM, and a 3100 mAh battery. Needless to say, the Xperia Z3 will run the new Android L–when Sony gets to it.

The Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact is a smaller, yet more powerful sibling to the Xperia Z2 Tablet. It’s one of the thinnest (6.4mm) and lightest (0.6lbs) 8-inch tablets you can get on the market. It will display movies in Full HD and run every application without complaint because of the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 and 3GB RAM as the Xperia Z3. The Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact will last quite a bit on one charge, with Sony claiming that you’ll be able to watch 13 hours of movies at one charge–even underwater. Impressive!

04_SmartWatch_3_WhiteIf you were planning to arm your wrist with one of these fancy new Android Wear smartwatches, the Sony Smartwatch 3 may be worth your consideration. The Japanese OEM decided to change its mind regarding the OS, and they joined the Android Wear family. Sony’s watch isn’t as sleek as the round-faced Moto 360, but it offers a totally enhanced Android Wear experience with a Walkman inside and some of these software gimmicks that make it the perfect choice for those who prefer to spend their time rather actively. And if you are looking for a fitness band, Sony also released the SmartBand Talk.

asus_zenwatchThe Sony Smartwatch 3 wasn’t the only watch unveiled at IFA. ASUS and Samsung also decided to join the Android Wear Family. The ASUS ZenWatch is a premium device with an AMOLED panel covered with Gorilla Glass 3. The ASUS ZenWatch has a 1.63-inch display, Snapdragon 400 1.2GHz processor, and a 1.4Wh battery. It weighs just 75g including strap.

nexus2cee_311Last but not least, we have another OEM: Samsung.  It was easy to predict that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 would be quite the powerful device. It has a 2.7GHz Quad-Core processor or 1.9GHz Octa-Core processor depending on location, 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, microSD card slot, 16MP rear camera with “smart OIS” / 3.7MP f1.9 front camera, and Android 4.4 on board. The Note 4 has a 5.7-inch 2560×1440 Super AMOLED display and a 3,220 mAh battery.

Samsung decided to release another device, the Galaxy Note Edge with a 5.6-inch 2560×1440 + 160 Super AMOLED panel and 3,000 mAh battery. Both devices will offer S-Pen functionality. The shape of the screen differs, with the Edge being a bit curvy. Both devices can be charged to 50% in half an hour.

Device forums for these new and important devices will be announced shortly. Will you be purchasing one (or more) of these devices? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
