For those of you who don´t know the work of XDA member and Chef m-deejay, he is one of the pioneers in porting Android ROM´s to the HTC Leo (HD2), together with other Chefs, he opened the door for giving extra life to one of the best devices HTC has ever built.
We saw him creating Eclair ROMs, which quickly evolved to Froyo and now the work has started on porting Gingerbread to Leo.
We thought you may find it interesting to see an interview with m-deejay to know a bit more about how all this was started.
orb3000: First of all thank you so much for giving us time to make this interview, and we would like to start asking you how you started into mobile world?
m-deejay: Аll started after buying T-Mobile HD2 summer of 2010.
orb3000: What was the first challenge you faced when you started to work on porting Android to Leo?
m-deejay: I think, that the lack of skills and lack of fresh firmware.
orb3000: We know this work has been a collaboration between many members that invested a lot of time and efforts to make this possible. Please tell us a bit about the team you worked in the beginning when the first Android releases were launched.
m-deejay: Many thanks personally Darkstone, for his help and advice at the beginning, Markinus and Hastarin for help with the kernel, as well as gauner1986, LeTama, NetRipper, iamgpc, Football, dcordes, and of course Cotulla!
orb3000: Are you working on porting Android to other devices?, or you are just focused on Leo?, if so, why?
m-deejay: No, not enough time…
orb3000: We know that the first Gingerbread builds are out, how all this new work started?
m-deejay: Immediately after Google posted source code.
orb3000: We know as well that Gingerbread work is still on development, what areas are not finished yet and when can we expect to have them fully working? Are they stable?
m-deejay: It is stable but there are three important issues: GPS, Camcorder and Auto backlight.
I think soon we will fix it.
orb3000: Have you ever thought on working on the reverse? (meaning porting Windows Mobile to Android?) Is this something possible ?
orb3000: Are you planning to expand your work to other devices or operating systems in the future? If so, please give us a glimpse.
m-deejay: I think in the near future there will be work for … HTC Desire HD!
orb3000: What are your future plans on your line of work?
m-deejay: Finalize Gingerbread and start doing the firmware for NAND (after the release Magldr)
orb3000: Finally, can you let us know what m-deejay does for living outside of XDA world and porting operating systems?
m-deejay: I’m 26 years old, working service engineer, I love listening to music, I love German hands up, and extreme overclocking my PC
Thanks a lot for your answers and we are looking forward to your future releases.
Our interviewee is not English native speaker, so answers are short but not for that less interesting.
