If you have an HTC Desire HD or Inspire 4G, surely you are aware of the great ROMs made by XDA Recognized Developer capychimp. He was one of the first Chefs presenting a Kingdom based ROM with Sense 3.0 fully working. We wanted to know a bit more on how capy made this possible, so please join us on this interview and feel free to send us any specific question you’d want us to add to the interview.
orb3000: Many thanks for your time on the interview. How did you get started with cooking?
capychimp: Well I bought a HTC Magic phone back in days, because I heard you could put the sense software from hero on it, so why pay more when you could “upgrade” so that made me google how to, which lead me to the unlock for rooting it, and then how to find a ROM, which linked to XDA. At first I was just a big noob at flashing ROM´s, but with time I got tired of all the apps put in from the chefs, so I decided to learn how to sign a ROM, so I could remove apps and add what I wanted. So, I grabbed the best ROM for the phone and started that, but with time it was not enough, so little by little searching XDA, yes I actually searched the forum, I learned more and more (should be a hint that the search can take you far).
orb3000: Did you have ROM´s for other devices?
capychimp: I made ROM´s for HTC Magic only, but wanted a new phone. So, now I cook for the DHD and also got a working ROM on the Sensation too (just tested by a nice guy) but in HTC Magic I teamed up with robocik, who went on Hero, so we worked close and could port most things to both Magic and Hero as they are close. This allowed bug tracking and fixes for each other. Hence, the name RCmix R for robocik and C for capychimp and mix, cause we port as our strong feature.
orb3000: Regarding your Kingdom series ROM´s for DHD and Inspire. How did you start on this?
capychimp: Kingdom started of course because it was Sense 3, but took some time until diamondking started hex editing which got me going in it too, and the RMK from G2 and I teamed up on a joint release for our devices and sharing info, the Rosie and lock screen got edited in the m10 tools by Diamondback and Flemmard, and with time improved in the layouts and values, but the real kickoff was after trying the first pyramid, more guys got their eyes opened and that gave some help on it, so what started it was a Dev forum wanting to work together.
Here we close the first part of the interview. Let us know if you have questions for capy._________
