KitKat Ported Over to Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

KitKat Ported Over to Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

Some devices are simply legendary. This isn’t a matter of age, tech specs, size, and so on. Rather, they are great devices with tons of development support that are still used after many have moved on to newer devices. Obviously there’s the legendary HTC HD2, but another such device is the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, the company’s first “real” flagship.

Despite having a locked bootloader, the X10 received some serious love from developers. Needless to say that XDA Recognized Developer FXP (known back then as jerpelea) started rewriting system libraries. As a result, FreeXperia started to support more and more devices. And now, almost every Sony phone has a custom version CyanogenMod baked by FXP, Kali-, and the crew. The X10 community was the birthplace of many XDA legends, many of whom are still active here on XDA.

The X10 simply refuses to die, and now its users can enjoy custom versions of KitKat thanks to XDA Senior Member Tof37, who decided to create custom builds on top of the old 2.6.29 kernel. Quite a bit doesn’t work, but having KitKat booting on this device is something really amazing for such an old device.

If you still have your Xperia X10 lying somewhere and gathering dust, this might be the moment to give this amazing device some of Google’s latest sweetness. More information can be found in its development threads.
