With the recent release of XDA University, many members are heading back to the basics. While many are busy learning more about Android, many others are willing to put their knowledge down to help teach others about the wonderful world of Android. Now, there is a tutorial that helps explain how GPS works on Android devices.
XDA Forum Member greatanjum has written up a pretty decent guide to understanding how GPS works on Android devices. It covers everything from the bottom up, starting with the hardware and ending with user applications. The full list of things explained includes:
1) GPS Chip
2) GPS Driver
3) GL Engine
4) Android Framework
5) User Applications
This could be a very useful and interesting guide for those who want to know more about GPS. There are many who have GPS problems, and it’s often a problem in new AOSP-based ROM releases before bugs are fixed, so having this information could help troubleshoot some GPS issues. In addition to being a guide, greatanjum has also included some popular and easy fixes users can try if they do have problems. This includes an old hardware hack method by XDA Senior Member TylerDurben.
