Although LG’s latest addition to the Optimus family and Virgin Mobile exclusive Optimus V is yet to have its own official home here at XDA, work in the Android Software Development section of the site has demonstrated that the device can easily be rooted – and within a week of its release!
The device is actually very similar to Sprint’s Optimus S, and is a variant of the Optimus One (whose section on the forums is located here). As a result, it isn’t a shock to learn that the Optimus V is also rootable using the SuperOneClick method.
LG announced last year that they would be rolling out Gingerbread updates for all Optimus One phones at some time in the future.
XDA member sublimewulf discoverer of the compatibility of the V with SuperOneClick, has created a thread with quick instructions on how to root your newly purchased LG and some useful modifications that let you get more out of it than Virgin Mobile had originally intended. The developer promises that he will soon release a line of stock ROMs for the device to remove much of the bloatware found within.
To learn how to root the Optimus V, read the developer’s thread._________
