Sick of hearing about Jelly Bean yet? Yeah, me too. But as the old saying goes, a bird in the hand makes for a messy wrist, or something… Anyway, if you’re currently still foaming at the mouth and scouring the forums for all the 4.1-related goodies you can possibly lay your grubby little paws on, this may be of interest.
Google Sound Search is a simple widget that performs much the same function as apps like SoundHound and Shazam—well the core functionality of them anyway, without all the bells and whistles that most people probably never even use. If you hear a song but aren’t sure what it is, simply tap the widget, let it listen for a few seconds, and it will tell you—simple and useful. For those of you with access to Google Play music, tapping on the results will take you to those items. For the rest of us, it’ll just take you to the Play store.
Thanks to XDA member asdfzz, you can now install Google Sound Search on just about any ICS ROM. Simply grab the provided APK and library, push them the appropriate location, and reboot. If you have one of the aforementioned applications installed but only use them to ID a song once in a while, this is a great alternative. It seems to be somewhat speedier then the others as well, which is nice. There’s a version for those of you without root and even one with a transparent widget.
So, what are you waiting for? Head over to the original thread to check it out._________
